Mr. Jeffrey Ohmart led our 5th grade Strings students in their final concert last Tuesday night.  Wow!  They were amazing.  Sincere thanks to Mr. Ohmart, for all of his hard work and dedication to our students.

MVES PTO
MVES PTO Board, Committee Chairs, and Volunteers needed for the 2015/16 school year. The PTO Board is a group of parents/grandparents who coordinate volunteer, enrichment, and fundraising opportunities for the MVES community. This past year, the PTO board donated over $20,000 to support the school. The PTO coordinates the Before School Enrichment Program and teacher appreciation efforts. Some pre-planning this summer will ensure a great success next year!  If you are interested, please contact Adriane Harrison, Principal.

Kindergarten Registration
Please bring your child for screening - Age requirement for KG is 5 years of age by September 30th
Required Documentation: Original Birth Certificate, Physical/Immunization Record dated within one year of date of entry, Verification of Address (Contract/Deed, Lease Agreement, Notarized Affidavit of PWC Residency), two forms of ID of parent/guardian (i.e., driver's license, car registration, voter registration, other bills).

Coding with Kids
Introducing computer programming to your kids can be a challenge, especially for those who aren't familiar with the nuances of code. Fortunately, in the last few years, a number of apps, software, and guides have been produced that make the often-complex subject of computer coding easy to grasp for young learners. So where to begin? Click here for a few resources to share with your children to help them start learning about programming.

MakerSpace Donations
Mountain View's MakerSpace will provide an avenue to integrate the Arts and 21st Century skills to create STEAM opportunities for students. To provide our students with various reusable, recycled, or new materials to invent, create, build, and program, we are reaching out to the school community. To those who have sent in supplies, we thank you! The students have been making and creating! When spring cleaning, please keep us in mind for: twine or string, spools, springs, empty tape spools, dowels, bottle caps, lego wheels or supplies to make wheels, lego's, building blocks, and building items used to create prototypes. To view the list and sign-up - click here! Items can be sent in or dropped off at school during normal school hours. The list is updated on a regular basis, so please check back often! Thank you for your support - it's been a great year!!!!

Get Involved - Volunteer!
There are numerous opportunities to get involved with our MakerSpace and S.T.E.A.M. initiative and your support matters. Lend your Expertise and/or Be a Guest Speaker! To sign-up, please visit this link:

Study Island
Students have access to a great reading resource to learn throughout the year and prepare for the state standardized tests (SOL's).  The school purchased, web-based program called Study Island, is accessible to students from school or home. All students in grades 4 - 5 have a username and password which is given out by the classroom teacher. Click here for an overview of the program.

We are excited about the benefits this program can bring to our students, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity by using Study Island. Please feel free to contact Study Island at 800-419-3191 or
support@studyisland.com if you have any questions.
