FREE AND REDUCED MEAL WAIVER
Students that are eligible to receive free or reduced meals, and whose parent/guardian provides consent for the release of their eligibility status, may be eligible for fee waivers. In order to obtain the applicable fee waivers, please complete this FORM and return it to your school’s cafeteria manager. By completing this form, you are authorizing the cafeteria manager to release the pertinent information to the school’s office staff.

STUDENT TRANSFERS
Mountain View Elementary School is CLOSED to new transfer requests for 4th grade for the 2015-16 school year.

MVES Birthday Celebrations
We are supporting our wellness initiative here at Mountain View.  We will be celebrating birthdays every other Friday beginning September 11, 2015.  Please see the attached letter for our birthday celebration dates.

BUS INFORMATION FOR KINDERGARTEN PARENTS

Kindergarten students must be accompanied to and from bus stops by a parent, guardian, or other designated individual. Those authorized to take custody of kindergarten students must be listed on the Emergency Data Card maintained at the school and they must have identification available when receiving a student at the bus stop. An older sibling who is at least 12 years old may take custody of a kindergarten student at the bus stop. No change of custody is required if an older sibling is riding the bus with a kindergartner unless the parent has indicated otherwise.

MYSCHOOLBUCKS
Parents now have the opportunity to set up lunch accounts for their children by accessing MySchoolBucks.com  In the past this has been called MyLunchMoney and is now under a new name.  All monies under the old name have been transferred to MySchoolBucks.  Parents also have the opportunity to pay by check or cash directly to the school if they wish.

CODE OF BEHAVIOR & FORMS
The parent letter/opt-out form is part of the PWCS student “Code of Behavior & Forms.” Objectives by grade level are posted on the Science and Family Life Education web page (choose the Family Life Education button). Visit the site and review the objectives for your child’s grade level or course. Parents may exercise opt-out for any of the FLE sensitive content by returning the opt-out form to the appropriate teacher any time during the school year but preferably within the first month of school.

Questions about the FLE program or the opt-out procedure may be directed to Kathy Keesee, administrative coordinator, Science and Family Life Education, at 703.791.7848 or lanzafk@pwcs.edu.

Student Supply Lists
The link for student supply lists is located on the left-hand side of the website under "Quick Links".
Coding with Kids
Introducing computer programming to your kids can be a challenge, especially for those who aren't familiar with the nuances of code. Fortunately, in the last few years, a number of apps, software, and guides have been produced that make the often-complex subject of computer coding easy to grasp for young learners. So where to begin? Click here for a few resources to share with your children to help them start learning about programming.

MakerSpace Donations
Mountain View's MakerSpace will provide an avenue to integrate the Arts and 21st Century skills to create STEAM opportunities for students. To provide our students with various reusable, recycled, or new materials to invent, create, build, and program, we are reaching out to the school community. To those who have sent in supplies, we thank you! The students have been making and creating! When spring cleaning, please keep us in mind for: twine or string, spools, springs, empty tape spools, dowels, bottle caps, lego wheels or supplies to make wheels, lego's, building blocks, and building items used to create prototypes. To view the list and sign-up - click here! Items can be sent in or dropped off at school during normal school hours. The list is updated on a regular basis, so please check back often! Thank you for your support - it's been a great year!!!!

Study Island
Students have access to a great reading resource to learn throughout the year and prepare for the state standardized tests (SOL's).  The school purchased, web-based program called Study Island, is accessible to students from school or home. All students in grades 4 - 5 have a username and password which is given out by the classroom teacher. Click here for an overview of the program.

We are excited about the benefits this program can bring to our students, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity by using Study Island. Please feel free to contact Study Island at 800-419-3191 or
support@studyisland.com if you have any questions.
